For New Embassy Headquarters in the Diplomatic District of the New Administrative Capital

Administrative Capital for Urban Development and the Embassy of Côte d'Ivoire in Cairo Sign Land Sale Agreement

The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) and the Embassy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in Cairo have signed a land sale agreement for a 5,000-square-meter plot in the Diplomatic District of the New Administrative Capital.

The land will be used to construct the new embassy headquarters and the ambassador’s residence. The agreement was signed by Eng. Khaled Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of ACUD,and Ambassador Albert Doli, the Ivorian Ambassador to Egypt,in the presence of officials from both sides.

Ambassador Albert Doli expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement, “stating We are pleased to establish our presence in the New Administrative Capital. This relocation follows the directives of President Alassane Ouattara and stands as a testament to the strong and distinguished relations between our two nations. We extend our gratitude to ACUD for facilitating the process and ensuring the contract was signed in a timely manner.”

He further highlighted the advantages of the New Administrative Capital, saying: “The New Administrative Capital represents a major leap in urban development, offering advanced infrastructure, modern transportation networks, and green spaces that enhance the quality of life for its residents. From the outset of this project, we have been keen to secure a location within the Diplomatic District, given its exceptional design that meets the specific needs of diplomatic missions.”

Eng. Khaled Abbas welcomed the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire’s decision to relocate, commenting:

“We extend our gratitude to Ambassador Doli and are delighted to sign this agreement as a step toward the embassy’s transition to the Diplomatic District. The presence of Côte d’Ivoire’s embassy is a valuable addition to this distinguished area.”

He also added,”The demand for embassy relocations to the New Administrative Capital is steadily growing. We are committed to establishing one of the most advanced and well-planned diplomatic districts in the world.”

* About the Diplomatic District

The Diplomatic District is a key component of the first phase*of the New Administrative Capital. It is designed to house all foreign embassies and diplomatic missions currently operating in Cairo. The relocation of embassies from various districts across the capital to this new hub is part of a broader plan to enhance diplomatic infrastructure and streamline operations.

The signing of today’s agreement with the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire follows a series of similar contracts with other diplomatic missions, most recently the Embassy of Algeria in Cairo.

This development reinforces the New Administrative Capital’s position as Egypt’s future administrative and diplomatic center, offering embassies and international organizations a state-of-the-art environment tailored to their operational needs.

About the Administrative Capital for Urban Development

The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) is an Egyptian joint-stock company, established in April 2016. The company operates in the field of urban development and executing, managing, and operating the New Administrative Capital project, one of Egypt’s most important national and strategic initiatives. ACUD is governed by the Investment Law No. 8 of 1997, with a paid-up capital of EGP 44.6 billion.

Construction of the New Administrative Capital commenced at the end of 2016. The city covers an area of approximately 230,000 acres and is located about 60 km east of Cairo and 65 km west of Suez. Upon completion of all construction phases, the city is projected to accommodate up to 8.5 million people. The New Administrative Capital is designed to alleviate the congestion in Cairo and address the rapid population growth. Additionally, the project is expected to significantly contribute to Egypt’s economy by opening broad investment opportunities for investors, development companies, and other stakeholders.

In 2023, the headquarters of the Cabinet, ministries, government agencies, and other entities were allocated to the New Administrative Capital. ACUD is also focused on completing integrated construction work for the embassy and consulate services, as well as some embassy buildings, which are now ready for relocation and habitation in the Diplomatic District, one of the key developments in the first phase of the New Administrative Capital.

The New Administrative Capital also includes the Financial District, a major economic hub that houses the Central Bank of Egypt, the Egyptian Stock Exchange, and the regional offices of leading Egyptian and international banks and companies. Furthermore, the residential districts feature a huge number of premium, diverse housing units, complemented by comprehensive services and public facilities.

ACUD has ensured that the New Administrative Capital is a city of distinction in every aspect. Its design prioritizes sustainability, smart technology, and green spaces. With allocation of 15 m² of green and open spaces, the city surpasses global standards for quality of life.

The New Administrative Capital also features the Green River, which, once completed, will be the longest green river in the world, spanning 12 km over a total area of 1,000 acres in its first phase. This will include central and recreational parks, as well as botanical gardens.

Additionally, the New Administrative Capital houses the Arts and Culture City, one of Egypt’s most remarkable and culturally significant landmarks, as well as the Knowledge City, a hub for technology and innovation.The Sports City represents an unprecedented leap in Egyptian sports, with the facilities and capabilities necessary to host international sporting events.

As one of the Fourth Generation Cities, the New Administrative Capital relies on the latest smart systems. ACUD has signed multiple agreements with leading global companies to enhance the concept of smart, sustainable cities and buildings in the capital. The goal is to manage the city infrastructure and services using cutting edge technology, positioning the New Administrative Capital as the first smart city in the Middle East.
