The General Assembly of the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations convened this morning at the federation’s headquarters in Cairo, under the chairmanship of Engineer Hassan Abdel Aziz. The meeting was attended by presidents and representatives of contractors’ organizations from 20 African countries, including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Egypt, Benin, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Chad, Uganda, Congo, Tanzania, Togo, Niger, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Ghana, Somalia, and the Comoros.
The assembly renewed confidence in Engineer Hassan Abdel Aziz by re-electing him as President of the Federation.
The meeting also witnessed the participation of Mr. Ali Al-Sanafi, President of the Arab Contractors Federation; Engineer Zakaria Al-Abd Al-Qader, President of the Federation of Contractors in Islamic Countries; and Mr. Sharif Wahbi, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Contractors Syndicate.
The participants discussed ways to shape a promising future for the construction industry in Africa based on enhanced cooperation, integration, and exchange of expertise and experiences among contractors’ organizations. They emphasized the importance of encouraging partnerships and alliances among national companies, continuing efforts to build local capacities and improve competencies, and devising appropriate solutions to overcome the challenges facing the sector—especially given that the construction industry is considered a key driver of comprehensive and sustainable development across the continent.
